What to Expect
If you have no experience in hiring a consultant to help you with your search engine optimization, it can seem like a complicated task.
However, that does not need to be the case. I pride myself on providing a client-focused approach to my SEO and doing my best to make it as easy as possible for you to work with me.
So what does the process feel like? How will it work? What should you hope to get out of it?
Your SEO Goals
Let’s talk about your SEO goals first; this should be something along the lines of:
To generate as much free, highly targeted traffic as possible to your website as cheaply as possible, then convert that traffic into happy customers.
Wait… What about this “free traffic” then this “as cheaply as possible”? What’s going on here?
SEO does have a cost to it. If you hire me to be your consultant, there is a cost for that.
This includes the cost for my time but also the content, business citations, and links that I will build for you.
BUT once you have invested this money (assuming the right strategy has been implemented), you will then start to receive a steady flow of FREE traffic to your site.
This is the magic of search engine optimization. Yes, there is a cost associated with ranking your site in Google. However, once you start to rank, the traffic will keep flowing.
You can then move on to target more keywords and increase your sales even more!
Outsourcing Your SEO to Me as Your Consultant
So how will this process work?
- We will have an initial chat.
- I will provide you with a detailed plan.
- We will negotiate a price for the plan.
- I will get to work!
- I will send you monthly reports.
Ok, now let’s look at each one of those steps in more detail:
The Initial Chat
This can take place over the phone, on zoom, or face-to-face, whichever works best for you.
I will need to see your website (if you have one). If you don’t have a site yet, that’s ok. I can advise you on how to build it from scratch with SEO in mind.
I will want to know your business goals, where you would like to be in three, six, and twelve months.
If you have ever done any SEO, I will need to know the details.
Did you do it yourself, or did you outsource it? What sort of links were built, what keywords did you target?
I Will Provide You with a Detailed Plan
After the initial chat, I will go away and create a free detailed optimization plan for your website.
We will have another chat where I will explain what I think your site needs to make a real difference to the quality of your business.
We Will Negotiate a Price for the Plan
Where possible, I like to offer my clients two or three different pricing levels.
This allows you to decide how aggressively you want to move towards your goals and also takes into account your budget and other factors.
I understand that you have to balance costs against the potential for increased profits. I will never give you the hard sell, and I will never try to lock you into a contract.
We will work on a month-by-month basis with you paying at the start of the month and then me working on your site.
You can stop working with me at any time you want. I will never try to pressure you to work with me.
I Will Get to Work
There are three main parts to most SEO strategies:
- Keyword research
- On-site optimization
- Off-site Optimization
Keyword Research – I will make sure we find the best keywords to target. This is an on-going process for most sites. You would be amazed at how many keyword variations there are out there!
On-site Optimization – There are two parts to this: technical optimization and on-page optimization.
On-page optimization involves making sure all the right words and phrases are in all the right places to give the page the best chance of ranking.
Off-site Optimization – This is the process of creating backlinks and other external signals that tell Google what your site is about and why they should trust it.
I Will Send You Monthly SEO Reports
Each month I will let you know exactly what work I have done on your site.
I will also send you some data to show what progress we have made in terms of increased rankings and traffic.
Some Final Notes
Search engine optimization is a strange process. No one ever really knows how long it will take a site to rank or how hard it will be.
There are no guarantees in SEO. There are, however, some solid principles that will help us achieve our goals.
By following these principles, we will build a solid foundation for years and years of free, targeted traffic visiting your site ready to buy products or services.
